Recognizing Our Veterans and Active Duty Military
I wanted to take a moment away from the insurance world to write about a recent event I was lucky enough to attend, as well as an exciting upcoming opportunity.
The Legend Clubs
I’m an avid golfer. So you can imagine with the weather warming up, the disappearing snow, and the grass getting greener — my eyes are on the golf course, waiting for the pins to be back in the holes, signaling the start of another season.
Our agency has been lucky to have golf and social relationships at The Legend Clubs, my home club of 20 years. A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of joining members from the Legend Clubs at a dinner sponsored by the Wisconsin PGA where they were awarded the Patriot Award for the State of Wisconsin. This award goes to a PGA professional who embodies patriotism and shows dedication to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The Legend Clubs has sponsored a variety of events that highlight this dedication. With member’s help and engagement, they have raised significant money for a number of military charities over the years, including Folds of Honor and Fischer House. One such example of their fundraising efforts is Patriot Golf Day, held annually on Labor Day. As with many golf events, members are encouraged to purchase signs for sponsorships. The response was overwhelming this year with over 300 signs!
Here are some comments from The Legend Clubs owner Jack Gaudion that summarize the organization’s mission.
“It’s incredibly humbling to be recognized for The Legend Clubs’ continued commitment in honoring and supporting those that serve in the military. Golf is such an amazing platform for giving back and for promoting patriotism. Those of us who didn’t serve can never comprehend the sacrifice and suffering of those that fought in combat and the strain on their families. Having grown up in a military family, supporting our veterans is very personal to me. It’s a debt that can never be fully repaid. My most sincere thanks go out to the members and staff at The Legend Clubs for their unwavering support.”
A Round of Golf for Veterans and Active Duty Military
Each year on the Tuesday after Memorial Day, the Legend Clubs closes its facilities to invite members of the Armed Forces — veterans and active duty — to enjoy a round of golf, including food and drink before and after.
As someone who is not from a military family but does have a son in the Marines, I wholeheartedly agree with Jack’s statement of appreciation. Thank you to all of you who have served! Please take the opportunity to play golf on Tuesday, May 31st as a thank you for everything you have given up to defend our country.
For information on playing please see the information below. If you know someone who would enjoy the opportunity, please forward this along to them.
